Demps Scores Career High as Wildcats Fall to Iowa

Senior nets first career 30-point game
IOWA CITY, Iowa — Senior Tre Demps scored a career-high 30 points but Northwestern fell to No. 3/4 Iowa, 85-71, Sunday afternoon at Carver-Hawkeye Arena.
The loss drops Northwestern to 15-8 overall and 3-7 in Big Ten play, while Iowa improves to 17-4 on the season and 8-1 against conference foes.
Iowa's Peter Jok scored a team-high 26 points, while teammate Jarrod Uthoff chipped in 23. The Hawkeyes shot 25-of-59 (42.4 percent) from the field.
Scottie Lindsey came off the bench and knocked down three 3-pointers in 26 minutes of action to help the sophomore finish with 15 points, while classmate Bryant McIntosh had six assists. McIntosh now has 156 assists on the season, which leaves him one assist shy of the program's single-season record held by Tim Doyle.
This was Northwestern's fourth straight game against a ranked opponent.
Demps jump-started the Wildcats' scoring 10 of the team's first 18 points to help Northwestern take a 18-14 lead with just under 12 minutes to play in the first half. The majority of Northwestern's early points came from behind the arc, as the team knocked down 4-of-6 3-point shots to begin the game.
Iowa closed the first half on a 21-2 run to take control of the game and head into the locker room leading the Wildcats, 42-26. Uthoff scored 19 points on 7-of-11 shooting in the game's opening 20 minutes.
Demps knocked down one of his six 3-pointers at the 16:07 mark of the second half to help Northwestern begin the half on a 9-2 run and cut Iowa's lead down to single digits, 44-35. It was the closest that Northwestern would come to catching the Hawkeyes on the afternoon.
The Wildcats will be back in action on Thursday, Feb. 4 at Welsh-Ryan Arena when Minnesota comes to town for an 8 p.m. tip-off.

• Demps moved past Rod Roberson (1978-81) into 13th place on Northwestern's career scoring list. Demps now has 1,348 career points.
• The 20-point game was the fifth of the season for Demps and the 12th of his career.
• Demps hit six 3-pointers in the game, establishing a career high. His previous high was five vs. Chicago State on Dec. 13, 2015.
• Demps appeared in his 123rd career game, tying him with Dave Sobolewski (2012-15) for fifth place all-time at Northwestern.
• Sophomore guard Bryant McIntosh recorded 6 assists in the game to raise his season total to 156. The mark is only one shy of Tim Doyle's single-season record of 157 set in 2006-07.
• Ranked No. 3, Iowa represented Northwestern's fourth straight foe ranked in the top 25 of Associated Press poll. It is the fourth time in school history that NU has played four straight ranked foes but the first time since the 1989-90 season.
• Freshman center Dererk Pardon connected on 3 of 4 field goal attempts in the contest. He has made 39 of his 55 field goal attempts in Big Ten play (.709).
• Sophomore guard Scottie Lindsey scored 15 points in the contest. It is the fifth time that he has scored in double figures this season and the first time in Big Ten play.
• Sophomore forward Gavin Skelly scored 8 points in the game, two shy of his career high of 10 vs. New Orleans Nov. 28, 2015, including hitting his first career 3-pointer.
• Northwestern and Iowa came into the game having split last 24 meetings going back to 2003-04 season.
