Compliance

Compliance
These Compliance webpages are designed to be a resource for NU current student-athletes, prospective student-athletes, university and athletic department staff and Wildcat fans (boosters, friends, and alumni).

Mission
Northwestern University Athletics Compliance is committed to the principle of institutional control and will maintain all aspects of its intercollegiate athletics program in full accordance with all:

  • NCAA rules
  • Big Ten Conference rules, and
  • University rules

Please note that questions regarding compliance with the Student Code of Conduct are referred to the Office of Community Standards.

University and Individual Responsibilities
Operating the intercollegiate athletics program in adherence to the principle of institutional control requires both institutional and individual commitment:

  • The University maintains control of its athletics programs through the responsible administrators, faculty, coaches and other institutional entities; educates coaches, staff, student-athletes and other individuals involved with the athletics program in their institutional responsibilities under the rules; develops operating systems within the Athletics Department and the University that provide guidance in how to work within the rules; and commits to identifying and reporting any violations of the rules that occur.
  • Each individual involved in intercollegiate athletics is obligated to maintain competency in knowledge of the rules; to act within his or her realm of responsibility in full compliance with the governing legislation; and to report any violation of NCAA, Big Ten Conference and/or institutional rules of which they are aware.

Reporting Suspected Infractions

If you have witnessed, experienced, or learned of any known or suspected infraction that breaks any of these rules, or causes you concern, we ask you to speak up.  Additionally, per NCAA regulations, all current and former institutional staff members, prospective and enrolled student-athletes have an affirmative obligation to report instances of noncompliance in a timely manner.

You can Share a Concern through NUHelp, which links to different reporting options depending on the type of concern you may have.

In addition, any member of the University community or public can report a concern with the option of anonymity and confidentiality using the University’s EthicsPoint online platform. Please note that it can be difficult to follow up on anonymous reports. Reports submitted via EthicsPoint will be handled promptly and discreetly.

Northwestern prohibits retaliation against anyone who, in good faith, shares a concern, reports, or inquires about potential policy violations or infractions.
