Three ‘Cats earn top-25 finishes

EUGENE, Ore. (March 27, 2024) – Propelled by an impressive 54-hole showing from Daniel Svärd, the Northwestern University men's golf team secured a third-place finish earlier in the week at the Duck Invitational in Eugene, Ore.

The 'Cats successfully lowered their team score throughout all three rounds of play at the Eugene Country Club (par 71; 6,997 yards), closing the event with an 861 (289-287-285) to edge Utah (285-288-290=863) for a spot in the top three.  Led by individual medalist Jackson Buchanan (73-67-67=207), Illinois claimed the team title (294-278-278=850).

Svärd dazzled during his stay in the Pacific Northwest.  Following back-to-back rounds of 72 on Monday, the Jarfalla, Sweden native put together one of the top individual rounds of the event, tallying seven birdies as part of a four-under-par 67 that saw him rocket into a tie for third place with a two-under-par 211 (72-72-67).  Svärd closed the week with 13 birdies, a mark that tied for second amongst the 88-player field.

Akshay Anand turned in one of the most impressive 54-hole efforts of his career en route to earning a share of 20th.  Out of Redmond, Wash., Anand piled up six birdies across his final round, turning in a one-under-par 70 on the way to posting a four-over-par 217 (74-73-70).  James Imai rounded out a trio of 'Cats to finish inside the top 25, tallying a five-over-par 218 (72-73-73) to tie for 24th.

Making his return to the Wildcat lineup, Ethan Tseng carded a second-round two-under-par 69 as part of a 221 (77-69-75), tying for 43rd, while Cameron Adam shared 62nd with a 226 (71-74-81) which featured an even-par round of 71 during Monday's opening round.
