LIMERICK, Ireland (March 4, 2026) – As the Ryder Cup approaches its 100th anniversary, Team Europe will once again turn to Northwestern alum Luke Donald to lead them for the 2027 Ryder Cup at Adare Manor in Ireland.

Donald will captain the European squad for the third straight time, after taking victories in both 2023 and 2025. The Englishman joins Dai Rees, Tony Jacklin and Bernard Gallacher as the fourth person to captain Europe in three or more consecutive Ryder Cups, and is seeking to become the first ever to win three in a row.

"The last two Ryder Cups have meant a lot to me and my family," Donald said. "I didn't imagine this third time would come. Celebrating on that Sunday night in New York after a pressure packed week in a tough environment, I thought maybe my job was done. But maybe there is a little more story to tell."

Donald competed four times as a player at the Ryder Cup, winning with Team Europe in 2004, 2006, 2010 and 2012. Donald made his debut as a captain in Rome, Italy, leading the European side to a dominant 16.5-11.5 win at Marco Simone Golf Club.

The Englishman returned as captain in 2025 at Bethpage Black in New York, taking a 15-13 win to retain the Ryder Cup and deliver the first European win on American soil since the 2012 Miracle at Medinah.

"I am excited Luke has accepted the Ryder Cup captaincy for Europe for a third time," Donald's former coach and current Northwestern Chief Operating Officer Pat Goss said. "He is the greatest player in Northwestern Golf history, and we are proud to have such an esteemed competitor and leader as an alum."

Under Goss, Donald amassed a program-record 13 collegiate victories at Northwestern, including the NCAA Individual Championship in 1999 and back-to-back Big Ten Championships in 2000 and 2001. Donald was a four-time All-American and the Big Ten Player of the Year from 1999-2001, and currently holds the lowest scoring average in program history at 70.95 strokes across four seasons.

Donald continued to work with Goss as he turned professional, winning 17 events worldwide and spending 56 weeks as the World Number One in the Official World Golf Rankings.

"Seeing Luke compete in the Walker Cup while at NU or being with him at his first Ryder Cup in 2004, it was always evident how much representing his country in international competitions meant to him," Goss said. "I am proud of how he has manifested that love of competition into being such a transformational leader. I have seen the time, energy and dedication he has put in to his Ryder Cup captaincies and know he will be a captain that his players will be inspired to play for at Adare Manor. I look forward to seeing a strong contingent of NU Golf alums at the Ryder Cup for a third time supporting Luke in his quest for history."

Donald's previous two Ryder Cup championships came alongside fellow Northwestern golf alum Matt Fitzpatrick.

After winning the 2006 Ryder Cup in Ireland at the K Club, Donald now returns to Ireland as a captain, with the team set to compete at Adare Manor from September 13-19, 2027.
