Lavelle's Complete Game Shutout Leads NU to 1-0 Win Over SJSU

EVANSTON, Ill. — Sophomore left-hander Quinn Lavelle tossed his second-career complete game shutout on Friday afternoon, helping down San José State, 1-0, at Miller Park.
Lavelle allowed only two hits in the career game, the fewest he has allowed in a start of at least 4.0-innings. Both hits by the Spartans were infield hits.
The Ohio native only walked one and fanned seven batters in the victory. He has allowed three or fewer runs in eight of his last nine starts, dating back to last season.
The Wildcats scored their only run of the game after an Anthony Calarco double. He moved over to third base and scored on a Jack Dunn RBI single.
Dunn extended his hitting streak to seven-straight games with his 1-for-4 outing. He came into the contest with the fifth-best batting average in the Big Ten.
First-year Michael Trautwein swiped a bag, Northwestern's 34th this season. The 'Cats came into the game with a Big Ten-leading 33 stolen bases.
Lavelle improved to 2-3 with a 3.66 ERA with his performance.
The Wildcats will play again tomorrow at 1 p.m. CT (note updated time due to weather) against San José State.
