EVANSTON, Ill. -- Northwestern aims to continue its success in road games this season on Tuesday when it travels to Maryland. Tip-off is set for 7 p.m. Central time at Xfinity Center.
The Wildcats come into Tuesday's game with a perfect 4-0 record in true road games this season. It is the first time Northwestern has started 4-0 on the road since going a perfect 7-0 during the 1930-31 campaign.
The Wildcats bring in a 15-4 record into Tuesday's contest, the program's best mark through 19 games since the 1945-46 season when they also started 15-4. A win Tuesday would give the team its best 20-game start in school history.
Tre Demps scored a game-high 22 points but Northwestern couldn't overcome a cold shooting performance from 3-point range in a 71-62 home loss to Penn State on Saturday. Bryant McIntosh contributed his first career double-double with 12 points and 10 assists. The Wildcats trimmed an 18-point second-half deficit to seven but ultimately couldn't overcome a 3-of-26 performance from behind the arch. Northwestern committed a season-low four turnovers in the game, the team's lowest total in a contest since coughing it up only three times in an overtime contest at Illinois on Dec. 30, 2009.
McIntosh's 10 assists vs. the Nittany Lions marked the third time this season that he has recorded 10 or more assists in a game. He is the first player in NU history with multiple double-digit assist games in the same season. McIntosh ranks fifth nationally with an average of 7.3 assists per game.
The sophomore has faired well against Maryland so far in his career. After recording 21 points against the Terrapins in College Park last season, he posted 17 points and 9 assists in the first meeting between the teams this year which was won by Maryland 72-59 on Jan. 2 in Evanston.
Scouting Maryland
The Terrapins improved to 16-2 overall and 5-1 in the Big Ten with a convincing 100-65 victory over Ohio State on Saturday. Robert Carter led Maryland with 25 points while Rasheed Sulaimon added 22 as the team shot 62.7 percent from the field. Melo Trimble and Diamond Stone each are averaging 13.7 points per game for the Terrapins with Carter contributing 13.4 points and a team-leading 6.6 rebounds per contest. Maryland is second in the Big Ten with a .513 team field goal percentage and first with a .757 team free throw percentage.
