‘Cats Advance to NCAA National Championship Match Versus Stanford

CARLSBAD, Calif. (May 20, 2025) – After defeating No. 6 Arkansas in the quarterfinals and No. 2 Oregon in the semifinals, both on Tuesday, Northwestern will play for the NCAA Championship on Wednesday afternoon versus No. 1 Stanford. The final will begin at 4:25 p.m. CT with live coverage on the Golf Channel and NBC Sports app beginning at 5:00 p.m. CT. Live scoring online is available via Scoreboard.
The NCAA Championship Finals in Carlsbad, Calif., which started out with 30 teams, have seen the Wildcats thrive, with all five members of the team winning at least one match on Tuesday. The 'Cats will play in their second national championship match (2017).
Stanford defeated No. 4 Florida State in their semifinal, 3.5-1.5. The Cardinal will attempt to become the first repeat NCAA champion since Duke (2005-07).
The semifinal matchup against the Ducks came down to the final pairing. Junior Dianna Lee, a San Diego, Calif. native who had been feeling under the weather, won her match versus Oregon's Kiara Romero in dramatic fashion on the 18th hole. Ashley Yun and Elise Lee also won their matches, both by 2&1 scores, giving NU their second 3-2 win of the day.
"Our team has so much support and belief in each other," said Dianna Lee. "Coming out today and finishing the last point is so special for everyone in the Northwestern community. We spend most of our time every day with each other. Through our dedication, and after long nights and days of practices, coming together to achieve a goal like coming to nationals and making it to the championship match is something that we all have strived for since day one. Being here is an amazing feeling."
It was Lauryn Nguyen, celebrating her birthday, who secured the win for the 'Cats in the quarterfinal with a playoff victory over Arkansas' Clarisa Temelo on the 19th hole. Two first-years, Elise Lee and Hsin Tai Lin, were also victorious, giving NU a 3-2 win over the Razorbacks.
