EVANSTON, Ill. – Northwestern returns home for a midweek contest against Northern Illinois on Tuesday, April 14 at Miller Park at 3:30 p.m. CT on B1G+.
After taking Friday night's series opener 11-10 in 11 innings, Northwestern (16-17, 7-8 Big Ten) dropped the next two games of last weekend's three-game series at Michigan State. Wildcat first-years pitched 56.3% of innings in East Lansing, allowing nine earned runs on 14 hits and five walks in 15.0 innings pitched (5.40 earned run average). First-year LHP Christian Forniss worked 5.0 no-hit innings and retired the first 10 batters of the game before surrendering three runs on two hits, two walks, and three strikeouts in 5.1 innings pitched.
Northwestern's pitching staff has held opponents to four or fewer hits on five occasions, its most in a season since 2019 (five). NU is 4-1 on such occasions. The Wildcats are 12-6 when holding its opponents to five or fewer runs.
