Wildcats Drop Midweek to NIU

EVANSTON, Ill. – Northwestern fell 27-11 to Northern Illinois in seven innings in Tuesday's midweek contest at Miller Park.
3B Owen McElfatrick recorded his second career multi-homer game with a pair of solo blasts in the first and sixth innings. McElfatrick is the fourth different Wildcat to log a multi-homer game this season. The Wildcats are one of only two Big Ten teams (Oregon) to have at least four players with a multi-homer game this season.
LF Preston Knott drove in three runs for the second time over a five-game span (April 8 at Notre Dame), matching his career-high. Knott also hit a career-high two doubles for the third time this season (March 22 vs. Illinois, March 29 vs. Maryland) and worked a walk.
CF Jackson Freeman logged a season-high three hits, including two doubles.
RHP Amar Tsengeg (0-2) is credited with the loss for the Wildcats. Tsengeg allowed five runs on five hits and two walks in 2.0 innings pitched.
RHP Mason Ruh (2-2) earned the win for NIU, holding the 'Cats scoreless with one hit and one walk, striking out one in 1.1 innings pitched.
The Wildcats will resume Big Ten play next weekend with a three-game series at Nebraska. First pitch on Friday is scheduled for 6 p.m. CT, Saturday's game is set for 2 p.m. CT, and Sunday's finale is slated for 12 p.m. CT.
