Adam, Shiels-Donegan Earn Top-25 Finishes At Wake Forest Invitational

‘Cats place sixth in team race
PINEHURST, N.C. (March 6, 2024) – Cameron Adam and Niall Shiels-Donegan both secured top-25 finishes to pace the attack for the Northwestern University men's golf team at the Wake Forest Invitational in Pinehurst, N.C.
The 'Cats closed their two-day stay at the historic Pinehurst No. 2 course (par 70; 7,146 yards) with a 54-hole team score of 862 (291-283-288) to place sixth. Auburn (286-287-279=852) edged East Tennessee State (287-281-285=853) by one stroke for the team title, while the Tigers' Jackson Koivun (70-70-69) shared individual medalist honors with the Buccaneers' Mats Ege (71-70-68) after both closed play with one-under-par 209s.
For the third time in four outings, Adam was the top Wildcat on the individual leaderboard. The Edinburgh, Scotland native carded back-to-back one-over-par rounds of 71 on Monday before a final-round 72 saw him wrap up play with a four-over-par 214 (71-71-72). Adam earned a share of 13th place, marking his fifth top-25 finish of 2023-24.
Shiels-Donegan posted the first top-25 finish of his young collegiate career, tallying a 218 (75-74-69) to tie for 25th. The Mill Valley, Calif. product matched his 18-hole season low during Tuesday's final round, notching three birdies as part of a one-under-par 69.
James Imai landed just a stroke back of Shiels-Donegan, tying for 30th with a 219 (75-73-71). Daniel Svärd and Akshay Anand finished as part of a tie for 38th at 221. Svärd (76-69-76) carded his team-best seventh round in the 60s in the event's second round, playing the front nine at two-under-par en route to a one-under-par 69. Making his first career appearance in the Northwestern lineup, Anand posted consecutive even-par rounds of 70 on Monday.
Competing as an individual, Archie Finnie placed 56th at 225 (76-76-73).
