Men's Tennis Sweeps Second Straight Doubleheader

EVANSTON, Ill. - Northwestern men's tennis swept their second straight doubleheader on Sunday at Combe Tennis Center, picking up a pair of victories over Clemson and IUPUI. After a dominant 6-1 win over the Tigers, the 'Cats finished up the day with a 4-0 victory over the Jaguars.
The 'Cats started off strong against Clemson, winning their first two doubles matches to take home the first point of the day. Most notably, Gleb Blekher and Felix Nordby took down the No. 33 doubles pairing of Noa Vukadin and Max Smith in a tight tiebreaker showdown, winning 7-6 (7-1).
Up 1-0, the Wildcats continued to impress in singles. Presley Thieneman took home his second ranked singles victory of the weekend, dispatching of No. 111 Vukadin in dominant 6-1, 6-1 straight sets. Greyson Casey followed that with a 6-3, 6-4 victory at the number five position, then Chad Miller picked up a 6-4, 7-5 victory at #6. Blekher provided the match-clincher from the number one spot, winning a the tiebreak 7-4 to secure a 6-4, 7-6 win over Clemson's Ryuhei Azuma.
The remaining two matches both went to super tiebreak, where the 'Cats and the Tigers split. Nordby won 10-6 to wrap up a 5-7, 6-3, 1-0 victory, while Saiprakash Goli fell just shy in his match to give the Tigers their lone point of the match.
In the evening action, the 'Cats opened with another pair of doubles victories. Blekher and Nordby won 6-1 and Casey and Thieneman closed the deal with a 6-2 victory of their own.
When it came to singles, Northwestern got points from Thieneman, Nordby and Goli. Thieneman wrapped up a perfect weekend with a 6-0, 6-2 victory at #1 singles. Nordby and Goli both won in straight sets as well, both taking home 6-4, 6-2 wins to clinch the match sweep, 4-0, for Northwestern.
These matches closed out an extended homestand for the Wildcats, who will now prepare to hit the road once more. They'll visit MTSU on Friday and Vanderbilt on Sunday. First serve against the Blue Raiders is scheduled for 5:00 p.m. on Friday and Sunday's match in Nashville is set to begin at 12:30 p.m.
