EVANSTON (March 15, 2023) – Following a successful outing at the Big Ten Championships, Northwestern wrestling will send nine student-athletes to the 2023 NCAA Championships in Tulsa, Okla.

Oklahoma State University will play host to this year's edition of the national meet inside the BOK Center in downtown Tulsa.  A packed three days of competition opens on Thursday morning with Session I at 11 a.m. before Session II gets underway at 6 p.m.  Session III will also begin at 11 a.m. on Friday, while Session IV opens at 7 p.m.  The medal rounds highlight Session V at 10 a.m. on Saturday, while the National Finals take center stage in Session VI at 6 p.m.

Michael DeAugustino (125 pounds), Chris Cannon (133 pounds), Frankie Tal-Shahar (141 pounds), Yahya Thomas (149 pounds), Trevor Chumbley (157 pounds), Maxx Mayfield (165 pounds), Troy Fisher (174 pounds), Andrew Davison (197 pounds), and Lucas Davison (285 pounds) are set to compete in Tulsa this week.  Northwestern's nine qualifiers are tied for the second most among Big Ten Conference institutions, while the Wildcats' 19 qualifiers over the last two seasons marks the most over a two-year span in program history.

Of the nine 'Cats slated to compete, seven earned top-six podium finishes at the Big Ten Championships in Ann Arbor, Mich.  DeAugustino, Cannon, and Chumbley led the way, each placing fourth overall.  Mayfield and Lucas Davison both took fifth, while Tal-Shahar and Thomas nabbed sixth-place finishes.  Andrew Davison rallied through the ninth-place bracket to claim the conference's final automatic qualifying spot at 197 pounds.

Northwestern's contingent features a quartet of previous All-Americans in DeAugustino, Cannon, Thomas, and Lucas Davison, with both DeAugustino and Davison each looking to join an elite group in Wildcat annals of three-time All-Americans.

Head coach Matt Storniolo's team enjoyed a banner showing at the 2022 NCAA Championships, placing sixth overall, the fourth highest team finish in program history.  Four 'Cats took home All-American honors at the meet, led by Ryan Deakin, who rolled to the 157-pound National Championship.
