Senior posts top finish by a Wildcat heavyweight since 2015

TULSA, Okla. (March 18, 2023) – Less than 24 hours removed from earning All-American honors for the second time in his career, Lucas Davison (285 pound) secured a fifth-place finish as Northwestern wrestling closed out its stay at the NCAA Championships this afternoon in Tulsa, Okla.

Davison rebounded from a defeat in the consolation semifinals to second-seeded Wyatt Hendrickson (Air Force) with a thrilling 4-3 decision win over Zach Elam (Missouri) in the fifth-place match.  With riding time a factor beginning the third period, the Chesterton, Ind. product conceded an escape to Elam before taking down the Tiger with 41 seconds gone to go in front, 2-1.  Following a release, Davison put the bout away with 48 seconds remaining, registering another takedown before riding out Elam to take fifth place.

After placing sixth at the national meet last season, his first at heavyweight, Davison's finish from this afternoon marks the top showing at the NCAA Championships by a Wildcat heavyweight since four-time All-American Mike McMullan's third-place finish in 2015.
