EVANSTON, Ill. - Northwestern fell in the final seconds to Purdue, 61-58, at Welsh-Ryan Arena on Saturday night.
Miller Kopp secured his 16th game in double-figures with 15 points, followed closely by Boo Buie with 12 points off the bench. Pat Spencer chipped in with 10 points and grabbed seven boards.
First-year Jared Jones also contributed with a career-high seven points.
The Wildcats relied on the three-point shot early, scoring 15 of their first 21 points from deep. Kopp went 3-for-4 from three in the first half, including making a pair of triples on consecutive possessions to extend the lead.
The 'Cats led 29-25 at the break thanks to their defense, which held Purdue to just 38% shooting in the half. Kopp paced NU with nine first-half points while Spencer added six.
Buie caught fire in the second half to extend the NU lead. The first-year hit three straight shots from deep to go on an individual 9-0 run.
The Wildcats held as big as a 10-point lead in the half but were unable to hold on down the stretch, ultimately falling behind on a last second three-point shot from Purdue. Pat Spencer's shot to tie on the other end just missed the mark as time expired.
Chicago's Big Ten Team will be back in action on Sunday, February 9 when they head to Rutgers to take on the Scarlet Knights. Tip-off is set for 5:30 p.m. CT.
