EVANSTON, Ill.
 – No. 22 Northwestern faces a stern road test this Sunday at No. 20 Maryland at the Xfinity Center. Tip-off is set for noon CT on BTN+.

The Wildcats are 17-2 overall and 7-1 in the Big Ten. They sit in a tie for first place in the conference standings with Iowa, while Maryland lurks behind at 6-2 with a 15-4 record.

Northwestern is coming off a 76-48 win at Michigan State on Thursday. The 'Cats handed their Spartans their first defeat at the Breslin Center this season, as they were previously 8-0 at home. The win was the fifth straight for the Wildcats, and improved the 'Cats to 6-0 on the road this season.

The blizzard defense propelled Northwestern to their road win, as they finished with a season-high 19 steals. The 'Cats capitalized with 35 point on turnovers and held Michigan State under 10 points in both the first and third quarter.

Junior guard Lindsey Pulliam and sophomore guard Veronica Burton paved the way with 22 points apiece. Pulliam contributed all over the floor with five rebounds and five assists while Burton was her usual defensive menace, tying her career-high with six steals as well as snagging eight rebounds.

The Wildcats continue to rank near the top of the national leaderboards for assist-to-turnover ratio (1.53, fourth in the country), scoring defense (54.1 points per game allowed, 14th in the country) and turnover margin (+7.2, 13th in the country).

Junior forward Abi Scheid ranks third in the nation in three-point percentage at 47.4 percent  and first in the Big Ten. Burton ranks fourth in the country with 4.0 steals per game.

The Wildcats defeated then-No. 12 Maryland in their last matchup on Dec. 31, 2019, in the second game of Big Ten play, 81-58. It was the Wildcats' first win over the Terrapins in program history.

Maryland is led by Kaila Charles, averaging 14.6 points and 8.1 rebounds a game, but five Terrapins are averaging double digits in scoring. Outside of their defeat to Northwestern, the Terrapins' only other Big Ten loss came to Iowa.
