EVANSTON, Ill. β Northwestern battled with Penn State for over 70 minutes, but ultimately could not come up with a goal in overtime in a 3-2 setback at Penn State on Friday night.
This marks the fourth-straight game for Northwestern that has been decided in overtime, marking the first time in program history the Wildcats have played in four-consecutive overtime games.
After surrendering a goal early in the second half, the 'Cats responded with a goal from Christen Conley, her first of the season, to even the score at 1-1 through three quarters. Conley is the ninth-different Wildcat to record a goal this season.
Two minutes into the fourth quarter, Northwestern grabbed a 2-1 lead thanks to a goal from Saar de Breij, her sixth on the year. However, following a Wildcats' yellow card Penn State took advantage and knotted the game up midway through the fourth quarter.
The Wildcats will look to bounce back on Sunday as they travel to No. 19 Rutgers.
