Senior Julie Byrne and sophomore Hannah McColgan are in action on Monday at the 2019 Saint Francis Health System ITA All-American Championships.
Byrne is slated to battle Tamijean Fumagalli from Air Force at 11 a.m. CT in the qualifying singles draw, before she teams up with McColgan at 2:30 CT in the doubles qualifying draw. The Northwestern duo will battle Natsuho Arakawa and Ashley Chang from Washington.
Northwestern kicked off the 2019 season at the 2019 ITA All-American Championships in Tulsa, OK at at the Michael D. Case Tennis Center.
Qualifying rounds began on on October 7-8 with main draws on October 9-13. The 'Cats will send eight athletes including Dominik Stary, Nick Brookes and Simen Bratholm for qualifying singles. Antonioni Fasano, AJ Joshi, Steven Forman, Chris Ephron and Trice Pickens in pre-qualifying singles. The #10 doubles team of Bratholm and Brookes will also compete in main draw doubles.
The Northwestern men's soccer team returns home to Martin Stadium to host cross-town foe, Loyola before resuming Big Ten play at Penn State.
The Wildcats look to bounce back from two hard fought losses against No. 8 Indiana and an aggressive Michigan team. Senior Matt Moderwell and sophomore Bardia Kimiavi lead the 'Cats in points with eight apiece.
The first 150 fans in attendance on Wednesday night's game will receive a free Northwestern soccer t-shirt.
Northwestern Volleyball will welcome two top-20 teams this weekend as they look to secure their first Big Ten win of the season.
Last week the Wildcats hit the road to match up against #17 Purdue and Indiana where they fell 0-3 and 1-3 respectively. With her 13th consecutive double-digit game, first-year Temi Thomas-Ailara notched a combined 41 kills over the weekend to land 2nd in the Big Ten in kills.
The 'Cats will face off against #7 Wisconsin on Wednesday at 6 p.m. and #20 Purdue at 7 p.m. on Saturday both at Welsh Ryan Arena. Wednesday's game will be featured on BTN's Wednesday Night Block Party and Saturday night's game will be the annual Dig Pink match in of support October's Breast Cancer Awareness month.
Northwestern Swimming and Diving will kick off the 2019-20 season against Illinois and UIC in the second year under Director of Swimming and Diving Jeremy Kipp.
"2019-2020 will be a challenging year in the pool and on the boards for the Wildcats," said Kipp. "We were not shy in scheduling some of the region's best teams early and often. I am looking forward to the test of our teams' will as we leave our holiday training camp in San Diego and compete in four dual meets in less than two weeks against teams that were in the Top 25 last year."
The 2019 'Cats will welcome back NCAA All-American and Big Ten record holder, Calypso Sheridan and NCAA qualifier Miriam Guevara.
The Wildcats will also welcome incoming standouts Federico Burdisso and Kevin Houseman who brought home a combined seven medal at the 2019 FINA Junior World Championships for the men. The women will welcome CollegeSwimming.com Top 30 swimmer Hannah Brunzell and English Championships medalist Ally Larson.
This meet also marks the first meet for new Head Diving Coach Kris Jorgensen. Live results will be available here.
Last week, Northwestern senior Brooke Riley shot up the leaderboard behind a 3-under, 69, in the final round Tuesday to finish tied for 15th at the 12th annual Windy City Collegiate Classic.
Riley posted her second-straight top-15 finish with her second round in the 60s this season thanks to a strong finish that included a Eagle on the Par-5 eighth hole. The senior started on the back nine and stumbled with a bogey on the difficult Par-4 10th hole, but responded with a trio of birdies to make the turn at 1-under. She had another bogey on No. 2, but responded with a birdie on No. 6 and 20-foot putt for eagle on No. 8.
The Manteca, California, native took advantage of the par fives all week, leading the field in Par-5 scoring at 7-under. She finished the tournament even par, carding a 54-hole total of 216.
Northwestern will head to Stanford for their final tournament of their fall slate at the Stanford Intercollegiate on October 11-13.
Northwestern went to overtime in both of its matchups last week against No. 4 Maryland and Maine, but ultimately came up short in both. The Wildcats still sit at 10-4 on the season and third place in the Big Ten with a 3-1 conference record. Redshirt first-year Bente Baekers scored once on the weekend and still holds the lead for most goals scored in the nation with 17. Additionally, senior Kirsten Mansfield scored the Wildcats' lone goal on Thursday and added an assist on Sunday to bring her total to 11 on the season, the second-most in the country. Baekers currently leads the Big Ten with 35 points on the season (second-most in the nation), while Mansfield ranks fifth in the conference with 17 points.
The Wildcats will look to bounce back this weekend as they head out east for a pair of conference games. The 'Cats head to Penn State on Friday to take on the Nittany Lions at 5 p.m. CT and then head to Rutgers for a matchup against the Scarlet Knight on BTN beginning at 1 p.m. CT.
Northwestern returns home for a crucial two-game homestand with four of its last six regular season games at Martin Stadium. The Wildcats welcome Michigan State for a Friday night kickoff at 7 p.m. before hosting the No. 24 Michigan Wolverines on Sunday at 1 p.m. The 'Cats own a .500 record in conference with their eyes on qualifying for the Big Ten Tournament as a top-eight team in the Big Ten.
Friday will be NU World Cup night as well Camper Reunion night. Additionally, fans can show their ticket stub from the men's game on Oct. 9 to receive a free ticket.
Against Michigan, Martin Stadium will be hosting Youth Soccer Sunday where all kids eighth grade and under are invited to wear their youth jerseys to the game for $3 tickets. The NU Purple Band will be in attendance and members of the team will be signing postgame autographs!
Northwestern continues fall ball play this weekend against Marquette at 1 p.m. at Martin Stadium. Next weekend the 'Cats will welcome back former student-athletes for their annual Alumni Game on October 19th at 1 pm at Martin Stadium.

Women's Fencing begins its first official competition of the 2019-20 season with the annual Remenyik Open, hosted for the second straight year at Ryan Fieldhouse.
The Remenyik Open is a two-day USA Fencing Regional Open Circuit event open to all members of USA Fencing. The 'Cats will compete in junior sabre, senior foil and junior epee on Saturday. On Sunday, they will compete in senior sabre, junior foil and senior epee. The first bouts on both days for Northwestern will start at 10:30 a.m CT.
Each event will feature a round of pools with six or seven fencers per group in a round robin, followed by the direct elimination round featuring longer bouts up to 15 touches.
