No. 2 Northwestern Dominates At Philadelphia Invitational

PHILADELPHIA, Penn. - The No. 2-ranked Northwestern women's fencing team had no intentions of slowing down their incredible start to the season as they once again swept its opponents, 4-0, at the Philadelphia Invitational on Sunday.
Northwestern entered the weekend as the second-ranked fencing program in the country in the first CollegeFencing360Coaches Poll this season. The Wildcats' 23-1 start earned them the the highest mark in program history. The 2018-19 season includes four top-10 wins, over No. 4 Penn State, No. 5 Ohio State and No. 6 Princeton, plus a ninth-ranked Penn team. The Wildcats also own notable 2018-19 wins over Air Force (18-9), Cornell (19-8; 18-9), Stanford (20-7), North Carolina (14-13), Wellesley (22-5) and Stevens Tech (16-11) while their lone loss has come against top-ranked Notre Dame, 11-16.
In Philadelphia, the 'Cats knocked off two more ranked opponents, No. 10 Temple and No. 3 Columbia.
Northwestern's foil trio Yvonne Chart, Alyssa Chen,and Sarah Filby opened the bout against No. 10 Temple with a 7-2 foil victory which paced the 'Cats in their 15-12 win.
After defeating both Yale and NYU with convincing 18-9 and 20-7 scores, NU would face the third-ranked Columbia Lions in the fourth and final round.
Emine Yücel, Maddy Curzon, and Pauline Hamilton posted 3-0 sweeps to propel the 'Cats, 14-13 in a thrilling victory over the Lions, completing the sweep.
Chicago's Big Ten Team now moves to 27-1 overall and will take a short break until February to host the Northwestern Duals in Ryan Fieldhouse, Feb. 2-3.
