Wildcats Set to Host Northwestern Duals

1/30/2019 1:03:00 PM | Women's Fencing

EVANSTON, Ill. – The No. 2 Northwestern women's fencing team returns home to host the Northwestern Duals, this Saturday and Sunday, February 2-3, at Ryan Fieldhouse and Wilson Field.

The Wildcats will see several familiar opponents over two days of action. On Saturday, Northwestern will take on No. 1 Notre Dame, No. 9 Penn, No. 10 Temple, Wayne State, and Lawrence.

Prior to Saturday's matchup against Temple, Northwestern will honor its senior class in their final home meet. Five Wildcats will be honored: Epéeist Ella Lombard, Foilists Yvonne Chart and Sharon Chen, and Saberists Maddy Curzon and Emine Yücel. The ceremony will begin at 12:15 p.m., and will feature free pizza and shirt giveaways.

On Sunday, the Wildcats will match up against three ranked opponents in No. 5 Ohio State, No. 6 Princeton, and No. 8 Duke, in addition to matches against Caltech, Fairleigh Dickinson, and Cleveland State.

In each of its previous matchups this season, NU picked up victories against Penn, Temple, Ohio State, Princeton, Caltech, Fairleigh Dickinson, and Cleveland State, while Notre Dame handed the 'Cats their lone loss of the season. Northwestern has not yet faced the eighth-ranked Blue Devils this season.

Chicago's Big Ten Team returns to action off a bye week following an impressive showing at the Philadelphia Invitational. The #B1GCats defeated all four opponents, including thrilling victories over No. 3 Columbia and No. 10 Temple, to extend the team's winning streak to eleven. The quartet of Chart, Curzon, Yücel, and Pauline Hamilton contributed seven wins apiece.

All matches will take place at Wilson Field at Ryan Fieldhouse, located at 2333 Campus Drive. Parking is free in the North Campus Parking Garage, adjacent to the Henry Crown Sports Pavilion. Admission is free and no ticket is required for entry.
