'Cats Fall to UNLV in Cambria Classic Finale

MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. – Northwestern fell 10-5 to UNLV in its Cambria Classic finale on Sunday afternoon at U.S. Bank Stadium.
OF Jack Lausch went 2-for-3 on the day with a triple, two stolen bases, one RBI and two runs scored.
INF Nick Barron put the 'Cats on the board first, scoring OF Jack Lausch to give Northwestern (6-7) a 1-0 advantage in the bottom of the first.
UNLV (12-5) answered, taking the lead on a pair of unearned runs in the top of the second. The Rebels added on to their lead in the fourth, extending the lead to 4-1 on a two-run homer.
Northwestern chipped away in the bottom of the fifth, plating two runs on a sacrifice fly by Lausch and an RBI single by OF Jackson Freeman to cut the Rebel lead to 4-3.
UNLV responded again, scoring three in the top of the sixth to stretch its advantage to 7-3.
In the bottom of the sixth, DH Charlie Caruso recorded his first career RBI on a double down the left-field line, scoring INF Nick Barron to trim UNLV's lead to 7-4.
The Rebels added three runs on four hits in the seventh to stretch the lead to 10-4.
Lausch capped off the scoring in the seventh, tripling to center field and coming around to score on an RBI groundout by INF Ryan Kucherak.
RHP Matt Kouser (1-3) is credited with the loss, surrendering four runs, one earned, on three hits, striking out six in 4.0 innings of action.
Northwestern will return to Miller Park for its home opener on Tuesday, March 10, against UIC. First pitch is set for 3 p.m. CT on B1G+. Admission for Tuesday's game and select home games is free to all fans.
