Schulze, Boon Lead ‘Cats to Fourth Straight Shutout, Defeat No. 8 Eagles 2-0

DURHAM, N.C. - Behind two late goals from Grace Schulze and five saves by Juliana Boon, the No. 1 Northwestern field hockey team (4-0) notched its fourth consecutive victory and shutout on Sunday afternoon. The Wildcats defeated No. 8 Boston College (3-1) 2-0 in a top-10 battle at the ACC/Big Ten Challenge, to come out of the weekend undefeated with two ranked wins.
The 'Cats are the only team in the country that has not allowed a goal in the 2025 season, with redshirt first-year goalkeeper Boon tallying nine saves over the weekend. The four-game clean sheet streak is a program best, as NU has never before opened a season with four shutouts. Boon now has 12 saves across her career four games played, showcasing a bright future for Northwestern goalkeeping, following two-time National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) All-American Annabel Skubisz.
Jack Katz Stadium saw hearty defense from both teams in the first half, as the 'Cats took only four shots. The Eagles were kept to two shots, and the first 30 minutes of play concluded with a 0-0 score. Despite two corners for NU and one for BC, each was saved, keeping the board blank after two quarters.
Northwestern took three shots in the third period, and was forced to drop down to 10 players on the field after Ashley Sessa received a red card. The final 15 minutes started with a Boston College corner, which the Eagles' attacked, yet could not score on, as Boon protected the goal with three saves.
NU moved the ball down field, and lefty Aerin Krys set up a crafty assist for Schulze, putting the Wildcats up 1-0 with five minutes remaining. Northwestern took three more shots before BC switched to an empty net. With the offensive opportunity, Olivia Bent-Cole used her speed to assist Schulze to another goal.
Despite being without Sessa for the final period, the 'Cats finished the fourth quarter with persistence to win the game 2-0. Graduate transfer Schulze continued to display her immediate impact on Northwestern's offense, as she now leads the team in goals (four) and points (eight). She now has two two-goal games (Richmond, Boston College) this season.
Up next for Northwestern, the 'Cats take on another road weekend of non-conference play. Traveling to Louisville, Ky., NU will meet Louisville on Friday, Sept. 12 at 5 p.m. CT. On Sunday, Sept. 14, the Wildcats face undefeated Miami (OH) at 10 a.m. CT.
