'Cats Continue Big Ten Schedule at Home Against Ducks
9/27/2025 1:56:00 PM | Women's Volleyball
EVANSTON, Ill. - Northwestern volleyball is back in action on Sunday afternoon, continuing the six-match home stand with a game against the Oregon Ducks. First serve is scheduled for 2 p.m. CT at Welsh-Ryan Arena, with action to be streamed on B1G+.
The 'Cats (10-3) fell short in Wednesday's Big Ten opener, dropping a 3-1 contest to the visiting Indiana Hoosiers. Rylen Reid led the offense in the loss, racking up 16 kills for her tenth straight double-digit performance and her 11th on the season overall. Entering the weekend, Reid ranked sixth in the Big Ten in total kills (151) and total points (180.5).
Also contributing was Lauren Carter, who recorded the first double-double of her career with a team-high 22 assists and 10 digs. The performance made her the fourth different Wildcat to log a double-double this season, joining Reid, Sienna Noordermeer and Ayah Elnady. It was the fifth straight match to see Carter lead in assists for the 'Cats, a streak that dates back to Northwestern's victory over Cornell on Sept. 13.
From the service line, first-year Lauren Dignan was the latest to impress for the Wildcats; she served up three aces to go along with her team-leading 13 digs, becoming the seventh Northwestern player this season to log a match with three or more aces. As a team, the 'Cats rank first in the Big Ten and tenth in the NCAA with 98 aces entering Sunday's match.
They'll face off with a 9-2 Oregon squad that has received votes in each week of the AVCA/Taraflex poll. The Ducks opened their own conference schedule on Friday in Champaign, where they fell to the Illini in a 3-0 sweep. It was just the second loss of the season for Oregon, who previously fell to San Diego State, 3-2, on Sept. 11.
Sunday's meeting will be the sixth all-time between the two programs, the third in Evanston, and the second as conference foes. The Ducks came out on top of a 3-1 meeting last season in Eugene after sweeping the 'Cats in 2023, but Northwestern won both of the previous two matches in Evanston - one each in 1985 and 1987.
After wrapping up against the Ducks, Northwestern will continue its Big Ten schedule at home against Michigan State next Friday, Oct. 3. First serve between the 'Cats and the Spartans is set for 7 p.m. CT in Welsh-Ryan Arena and on B1G+.
