
'Cats Fall to St. Thomas

EVANSTON, Ill. -- Northwestern volleyball fell to the St. Thomas Tommies in three sets (15-25, 17-25, 20-25) on Thursday night at Welsh-Ryan Arena.
The non-conference loss dropped Northwestern to 9-2 on the season, while St. Thomas improved to 7-3.
The Wildcats offense was paced by Ayah Elnady, who finished with 12 kills on the day while accumulating a hitting percentage of .462, and by Rylen Reid, who had 10 while hitting .267. Northwestern got 12 digs from Drew Wright to lead the team defensively.
How It Happened
SET 1 | The Wildcats fell behind early, dropping a tough first set 25-15. St. Thomas grabbed the advantage for good at 9-8 and didn't look back, hitting .400 on its way to the set victory.
SET 2 | Northwestern dropped set two 25-17 to give the Tommies a 2-0 lead in the match. St. Thomas once again grabbed the lead early, and Northwestern couldn't make up the deficit.
SET 3 | Northwestern was not able to win the third set, giving St. Thomas the 3-0 sweep. The Wildcats dropped the set 25-20 despite a solid performance on the attacking side. Northwestern mounted a late comeback with a 5-0 scoring run to narrow the deficit to five points, but couldn't close out the comeback.
Game Notes
» Northwestern attackers were helped by a team-high 25 assists from Lauren Carter. It was her sixth match this season with 20 or more assists.
» Rylen Reid extended her double-digit kill streak to eight straight matches. She has recorded ten or more kills in nine of ten games she has appeared in this season.
