
Wildcats Sweep Campbell to Close Non-Conference Play

EVANSTON, Ill. -- Northwestern volleyball ended its non-conference season in dominant fashion on Saturday, sweeping Campbell (25-12, 25-18, 25-19) at Welsh-Ryan Arena to close out the Northwestern Invitational.
The victory improved the Wildcats' overall record to 10-2 on the season, while the Fighting Camels fell to 8-3.
Rylen Reid hit .375 with 14 kills on the day to lead the Wildcat attack. Ayah Elnady chipped in nine kills and a season-high 13 digs, and Kayla Kauffman racked up seven blocks to lead the 'Cats defensively.
How It Happened
SET 1 | The Wildcats took control from the first point of the match, opening set one on an 8-2 run to force an early Campbell timeout. From there, they didn't let up, maintaining a lead of at least five points for the entirety of the first frame. On Sienna Noordermeer's serve, the 'Cats went on a 3-0 run to put themselves on the brink, 24-11, before Bella Bullington earned the kill for set point, 25-12. Rylen Reid accounted for seven of Northwestern's 17 total kills in the first set, and the 'Cats supplemented their offense with three aces en route to victory.
SET 2 | Northwestern didn't let up in set two, winning 25-18 to double their lead in the match. The Wildcats once again led from the opening point, and though Campbell battled through the first half of the set, 11 kills and three blocks from Northwestern eventually made the difference. Kayla Kauffman assisted on all three blocks in the second set, also adding two kills to her stat sheet in the stanza.
SET 3 | Northwestern took set three to sweep the match 3-0. The Wildcats grabbed control of the set early when the score was 4-3 and never looked back, going on to win 25-19. Northwestern ended on a strong note, opening up its biggest lead of the stanza, six points, to close out the set. Ayah Elnady and Reid both added four more kills apiece to help secure the sweep for Northwestern.
Game Notes
» Kayla Kauffman had a match-high seven blocks, which tied her season and career high. Her 37 blocks on the season trail only Bella Simkus on Northwestern's roster.
» Northwestern never trailed in either of the first two sets.
» Rylen Reid had a match-high 14 kills for Northwestern. It was her ninth straight match reaching double-digit kills and her fourth time this season leading the team in a match.
» Northwestern got a match-high 13 digs from Ayah Elnady, her highest total of the season. With nine kills, she was just one shy of notching her third double-double of the season.
» Northwestern attackers were helped by a match-high 17 assists from Lauren Carter, and Sienna Noordermeer chipped in 15 as well.
