SEATTLE – First-year goalkeeper Nyamma Nelson made a career-high eight saves as Northwestern extended its unbeaten streak to six games in a 1-1 draw at Washington on Thursday night.
Northwestern's six-game unbeaten streak is its longest since it went unbeaten through nine games (7-0-2) to start the 2023 season (Aug. 17, 2023–Sept. 17, 2023).
Both sides generated multiple quality chances in the first half, but neither team was able to find the back of the net in the first 45 minutes. Nelson made four first half saves to keep the Huskies off the scoresheet.
Junior defender Keira Wagner subbed on in the 38th minute for her first appearance of the 2025 campaign, logging 14 minutes in her return from injury.
For the eighth time in nine games this season, Northwestern (4-1-4, 0-0-2 Big Ten) opened the scoring, capitalizing in the 51st minute. After UW goalkeeper Tanner Ijams was unable to corral Megan Norkett's corner kick, Caterina Regazzoni pounced on the loose ball in the six-yard box, putting it away to give NU the lead and tally her second goal of the season.
Washington (4-1-4, 1-0-1 Big Ten) responded in the 72nd minute when a shot by senior forward Kalea Eichenberg deflected off a Northwestern defender and snuck past Nelson to even the game at one.
Nelson's eight saves are the most by a Wildcat goalkeeper since Reiley Fitzpatrick made eight saves at Michigan State on Oct. 20, 2024.
