'Cats Secure Sweep at Rhode Island

EVANSTON, Ill. - Northwestern volleyball closed out its East Coast road-trip with a sweep against the University of Rhode Island on Monday afternoon, taking down the Rams in three straight sets (25-15, 25-16, 25-20).
The non-conference victory moved the Wildcats' record to 9-1 on the season, while Rhode Island fell to 2-8.
Rylen Reid led the offense with 11 kills, while Campbell Paris chipped in nine kills on .533 hitting. Kathryn Randorf and Gabrielle Gerry both contributed four blocks in the victory.
How it Happened
SET 1 | The first set began as a back-and-forth affair, with no team ever leading by more than four points during the first half of the frame. The Wildcats were able to pull away after a Rhode Island timeout, going on an 11-6 run to take the set 25-15. Reid led the team with five kills in the opening set, hitting .625. Northwestern also recorded four aces in the first set victory.
SET 2 | Both teams carried momentum into the second set, but Northwestern was able to come out on top 25-16. Reid added another three kills to her total, while Paris took over and recorded five kills and two block assists in the set.
SET 3 | The Wildcats closed out the victory with a 3-0 sweep after a third set that consisted of six ties and two lead changes. Rhode Island rallied to make it a four-point set late, but it was Ayah Elnady who came up with the last kill of the match to secure the Northwestern victory.
Game Notes
» Rylen Reid finished the match with a team-high 11 kills which brings her season total to 111. This is the seventh game this season that Reid has had more than ten kills in a match.
» Lauren Carter recorded 17 assists while Sienna Noordermeer recorded 15. It marked the eighth time this year that both of Northwestern's setters reached double figures in the same match.
» As a team, the 'Cats racked up a season-best .405 hitting percentage, only recording seven errors in the match.
» Bella Bullington followed up her standout weekend with another great day on offense, recording six kills on .444 hitting. It marked the fifth time this season that the first-year has hit over .400 in a game where she recorded five or more kills.
