NU Takes Third Place at Lewis Chitengwa Memorial, Two ‘Cats Finish in Top 10

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – In their final competition of the regular season, Northwestern Men's Golf finished in third place at the Lewis Chitengwa Memorial in Charlottesville, Va. Two 'Cats – Niall Shiels-Donegan and Cameron Adam – earned Top 10 finishes as the team turns their attention to defending their title at the Big Ten Championships.
The Wildcats returned to the par-71, 7,116-yard Birdwood Golf Course for the third consecutive year, earning a second consecutive Top 3 finish and third straight Top 5 result.
Shiels-Donegan (-2; 71-69-71=211) – who shot at or below par all three rounds – tied for sixth on the leaderboard, only three strokes behind the winner, Florida State's Luke Claton, the third ranked collegiate golfer. Shiels-Donegan, a native of Mill Valley, Calif., led the 'Cats at an event for the second time this season (The Prestige, La Quinta, Calif.).
NU shot a 54-hole team score of 852 (278-280-294) to finish at even-par. The Wildcats finished behind the two teams, No. 11 Florida State and No. 13 Virginia, that are ranked ahead of them.
The Seminoles (-13; 267-274-298=839) won the team title by five strokes over host UVA (-8; 281-276-287=844). The five golfers who finished ahead of Shiels-Donegan included Claton, FSU's Gray Albright, UVA's Josh Duangmanee, Liberty's Josh Ryan and No. 9 UVA's Ben James.
Adam (E; 69-69-75=213), who was recently named a finalist for the Byron Nelson Award, carded 69-69 on Monday when the first two rounds were played. Mark Gazi (+4; 70-72-75=217), playing as an individual, earned his first collegiate Top 25 finish. Daniel Svärd (+7; 71-68-81=220), who was coming off a win at The Goodwin, shot at or below par in the first two rounds, while Archie Finnie (+7; 67-80-73=220) had his best round to-date, a 4-under 67 in round one. Ethan Tseng (+10; 74-74-75=223) rounded out the group.
