Boyd Posts Stellar Outing, ‘Cats Drop Series Finale to Huskers

EVANSTON, Ill. – Despite a stellar outing in the circle from Lauren Boyd, Northwestern came up short in its series finale vs. Nebraska on Monday afternoon at Sharon J. Drysdale Field, falling 3-0.
The game remained scoreless through four innings as both teams struggled to generate offense. Northwestern put runners in scoring position in the first, third and fifth innings, but ultimately could not convert with two outs to bring them home.
Nebraska broke through in the top of the fifth, plating an unearned run after a walk, a sacrifice bunt, and a fielding error allowed the first run of the game to score. The Huskers added two insurance runs in the seventh inning to extend their lead to 3-0.
Grace Nieto and Isabel Cunnea recorded hits for the Wildcats, as each finished the weekend series with multiple hits. Nieto also stole a pair of bases in the third inning, extending her total to a career high 11 on the season.
Boyd allowed just two earned runs in 6.1 innings pitched, allowing five hits while striking out three. Boyd has now thrown 6.0+ innings in seven different starts this season, including four of her last five.
Northwestern is back in action on Wednesday, April 16 when it wraps up its eight-game homestand vs. Loyola Chicago with first pitch at 4pm CT. The Wildcats then hit the road for a three-game series at Rutgers from Friday, April 18 through Sunday, April 20.
