‘Cats look to build off season-opening win over IU Indy
EVANSTON, Ill. (November 8, 2025) – Coming off a thrilling win to begin the 2025-26 regular season earlier in the week, Northwestern (1-0) returns to the Welsh-Ryan Arena hardwood on Sunday afternoon for a 2 p.m. CT meeting with SIUE.
LAST TIME OUT
Grace Sullivan and Tayla Thomas both finished with double-doubles, while Xamiya Walton capped off a career-best showing with a clutch fourth-quarter three to help Northwestern past IU Indy, 67-64, this past Wednesday at Welsh-Ryan Arena.
Sullivan led the Wildcats on the night, finishing with a game-high 18 points, in addition to a career-best 18 rebounds. Thomas put up her first career double-double, turning in career-best marks in points (13), rebounds (13), and blocks (4). Walton connected on a career-high four triples en route to finishing with 17 points, the top single-game output of her collegiate career. Casey Harter rounded out a quartet of Wildcats in double figures with 13 points.
SCOUTING SIUE
Sitting at 2-0 for the first time since the 2018-19 season, SIUE continued its perfect start to 2025-26 with a 56-51 win over Eastern Kentucky on Friday in Berea, Ky. The Cougars, who were tabbed 10th in the OVC Preseason Poll, are led by former DePaul star Samantha Quigley Smith, who is in her fifth season with the program.
Quigley Smith welcomes back eight letterwinners from last season, a group led by Macy Silvey, who averaged 9.7 points across 29 starting appearances a year ago. In Friday's win over the Colonels, freshman Lauren Miller dazzled, pouring in a game-high 25 points. Miller flirted with a double-double in just her second collegiate appearance, collecting nine rebounds.
Fellow freshman Kiyoko Proctor has also impressed in the early days of her career, opening the season with back-to-back double-figure scoring efforts. Adebukola Akomolate, a graduate transfer from VCU, has wasted no time in establishing her presence on the glass, averaging a team-high 8.5 rebounds through SIUE's opening two games.
SERIES STUFF
In the only previous meeting between Northwestern and SIUE, Dannielle Diamant (17 points, 10 rebounds) and Amy Jaeschke (16 points, 15 rebounds) posted double-doubles as the 'Cats cruised to a 68-37 win on November 20, 2009, at Welsh-Ryan Arena.
In the Wildcats' last matchup against an Ohio Valley Conference (OVC) foe, Caileigh Walsh finished with 27 points and 14 rebounds, while Melannie Daley added 17 points of her own, as Northwestern downed Southeast Missouri State, 76-68, on November 19, 2023. With the win, Northwestern improved to a perfect 28-0 (1.000) against current members of the OVC.
