'Cats Head West for Weekend in L.A.

LOS ANGELES, Calif. - After securing a pair of wins against Iowa and Maryland at home this past weekend, Northwestern volleyball will hit the road again to take on No. 17 USC and UCLA this weekend in Los Angeles. The 'Cats will face the Trojans on Thursday night at 9 p.m. CT, then battle the Bruins on Saturday night at 9 p.m. CT. Both matches will be streamed on B1G+.

Rylen Reid headlined last weekend in her return to the court after injury, making an instant impact with a match-high 27 kills in Friday's meeting with Iowa. It was a career-high for Reid, marking her first-ever 20+ kill match, and also served as the highest single-game total for a Wildcat player since 2023 (Julia Sangiacomo, 27). She then added 15 more kills in Sunday's win over Maryland to lead the offense for a second consecutive game.

Reid's explosive weekend was one of several offensive highlights for Northwestern; Ayah Elnady recorded her fourth double-double of the season against Iowa with season highs in both kills (18) and digs (13). She reached double-digits again on Sunday, joining Reid and Bella Bullington (14) as one of three 'Cats to record ten or more kills against the Terrapins. Lauren Carter also had an impressive showing against the Terrapins, finishing with 28 assists, 10 digs and three service aces. This was Carter's fourth double-double this season, tying Elnady for the most double-doubles by a Wildcat this year.

Up first for the 'Cats on the West Coast are the No. 17 Trojans. USC (17-5, 8-4 Big Ten) enters the match on a six-game winning streak. The latest victory for the Trojans came in a closely contested five-set match against No. 20 Minnesota on Saturday. Northwestern was able to steal a set from the Trojans last season, and will look to build on that this year. The Wildcats will need to get through a tough Trojan defense that is ranked first in the Big Ten in total blocks (225.5).

On Saturday, Northwestern will take on the Bruins (13-9, 7-5 Big Ten) who are receiving votes in the AVCA Poll after their most recent win against Washington. UCLA came out on top in last year's match-up with Northwestern, but the 'Cats will look to change that this season. The Bruins will turn to Marianna Singletary, who is ranked fifth in the conference in total blocks with 103 this season. UCLA also has firepower in Cheridyn Leverette, who is eighth in the Big Ten in kills (297).

After their California trip, the 'Cats will continue their road stint in Iowa City, where they are scheduled to take on the Iowa Hawkeyes for the second time this season next Thursday. First serve is set for 6 p.m. CT, and the action will be streamed on B1G+.
