No. 5 Northwestern Rolls To Team Title At Tufts Invitational

‘Cats finish 8-1 across all weapons en route to 3-0 showing at event
MEDFORD, Mass. (January 13, 2025) – No. 5 Northwestern fencing picked up three head-to-head victories on the way to securing the team title at the Tufts Invitational on Sunday in Medford, Mass.

Northwestern opened its stay inside the Gantcher Center with a 15-12 triumph over Brown that included wins from its sabre (6-3) and foil (5-4) squads. Competing just over 30 miles from her hometown of Holliston, Mass., Nisha Hild led the way for the Wildcat sabreists against the Bears, posting a spotless 3-0 mark.
In a clash with Wellesley, the 'Cats cruised to a 22-5 victory, an effort highlighted by a combined 9-0 showing from the sabre trio of Hild, Kira Erikson, and Amy Lu. Allison Lee and Karina Vasile each swept their bouts as part of an 8-1 win in the foil, while Christina Liu and Karen Wang each picked up two wins to help the Wildcats' epee team cement a 5-4 victory.
Northwestern closed out the day with another sweep of all three weapons, costing past event host Tufts, 17-10. Samantha Serban finished 3-0 against the Jumbos, as the 'Cats owned a 6-3 edge in foil. Liu, Hanna Lipthay, and Emma Ning all came away with two wins apiece to help the Wildcat epeeists to a 6-3 win of their own. Megumi Oishi matched Serban with an unblemished 3-0 record to lead Northwestern to a 5-4 victory in sabre.
