‘Cats Win Five At DeCicco Duals, Return Home To Host Schiller Duals This Weekend

Northwestern finished a combined 15-3 across all weapons
SOUTH BEND, Ind. (January 27, 2025) – Competing in its penultimate dual meet of the 2024-25 regular season, No. 5 Northwestern fencing posted a 15-3 record across all weapons at the DeCicco Duals this past Saturday in South Bend, Ind. The 'Cats closed action at the Castellan Family Fencing Center with a 5-1 overall record across six head-to-head matchups.
Northwestern got off to a fast start, sweeping all three weapons en route to blanking Lawrence by a 27-0 final. Following comfortable wins over Wayne State, 22-5, and Cleveland State, 24-3, the 'Cats gave No. 2 Notre Dame all it could handle, ultimately dropping a 15-12 decision. Anna Damratoski led the way for Wildcats against the Fighting Irish, finishing a perfect 3-0 to propel Northwestern's epeeists to a 6-3 triumph.
The 'Cats bounced back from their narrow setback to the event hosts, closing the day with victories over Denison, 18-9, and Detroit Mercy, 25-2, respectively.
Ophelia Tong was one of seven Wildcats to close the day with an unblemished record, piling up a team-high eight wins. Fellow foilists Brianna Ho (6-0), Allison Lee (6-0), and Yejine Lee (4-0) joined Tong in finishing the day without a defeat. Damratoski paced Northwestern's epee squad with a spotless 6-0 mark, while sabreists Adele Bois (6-0) and Kira Erikson (4-0) enjoyed undefeated days of their own.

Northwestern returns to the friendly confines of Ryan Fieldhouse this coming weekend to host the Schiller Duals, February 1-2. The 'Cats will battle four ranked foes across the two-day event, highlighted by a clash with No. 2 Notre Dame at 11:45 a.m. on Saturday morning. Admission to both days is free of charge.
Following its matchup with the Fighting Irish, Northwestern will recognize former long-time head coach Laurie Schiller for his contributions to Wildcat fencing. Prior to Sunday afternoon's matchup with FDU, Northwestern will honor its senior class in a ceremony that is scheduled to begin at 12:50 p.m.
