Wildcats Charge into B1G Semifinals Against Johns Hopkins: Home Advantage in Focus

5/2/2024 12:52:00 AM | Women's Lacrosse

Evanston, Ill. - No. 1 Northwestern is set to clash with No. 12 Johns Hopkins in the semi-finals of the B1G Tournament. The Wildcats, fresh off a bye week after securing the B1G regular season championship with a thrilling 13-12 victory over Michigan, will face the Blue Jays for the second time this season. Johns Hopkins, arriving in Evanston after a hard-fought 10-9 overtime win against Michigan last Saturday, is gearing up for another challenging matchup.

Hosting the B1G Tournament in Evanston this year, Northwestern enjoys a home field advantage, having completed a perfect regular season at home -- extending the longest active streak in the country to 41 games.

Combe Family Head Lacrosse Coach Kelly Amonte Hiller expressed her anticipation for this pivotal game, emphasizing the importance of these postseason moments and the advantage of playing at home: "You play for these moments at the end of the season … being at home is a huge advantage for us, we want to make sure we take advantage and have as much fun as we can."

In their previous encounter with Johns Hopkins on March 16, the Wildcats delivered an impressive performance, securing their fourth consecutive home win and seventh consecutive victory in their Big Ten opener this season with a 14-9 triumph at Ryan Fieldhouse. Led by Izzy Scane's standout performance (7 goals, 1 assist), and supported by Madison Taylor (4 goals, 3 assists), and Erin Coykendall (2 goals, 2 assists), Northwestern dominated the match.

The Wildcats are historically strong in the B1G women's lacrosse tournament, boasting a 10-5 record. Having clinched the tournament title in 2019, 2021, and 2023, Northwestern aims to defend their back-to-back regular season and tournament championships.

Thursday's showdown will kick off at noon CT at Lanny & Sharon Martin Stadium, broadcast live on the Big Ten Network with Dean Linke and Caley Chelios providing commentary.

The winner of this clash will advance to face the victor of the #15 Penn State vs #25 Rutgers matchup, scheduled for 2:30 pm CT at Martin Stadium.

The B1G final will take place in Evanston at 4:30 p.m. CT on Saturday, May 4.
