This showdown holds significant stakes as both teams vie for the outright Big Ten regular-season championship, with the Wildcats aiming for back-to-back titles. Historically, the Wildcats have dominated the Wolverines with an impeccable 15-0 record, including three victories in the past year alone. Their most recent encounter saw the Wildcats clinch a nail-biting 8-7 victory in the NCAA tournament's second round on May 14, 2023.
Fresh from a commanding 19-10 B1G win over Ohio State, the Wildcats are determined to secure their final Big Ten victory. Notably, they concluded a flawless 8-0 season at home, with standout performances from Dylan Amonte and Erin Coykendall. Coykendall's stellar performance earned her recognition as the IWLCA offensive player of the week for the first time in her career, contributing 8 points (2 goals and 6 assists).
Leading the charge for the Wildcats are Madison Taylor and Izzy Scane, with Taylor topping the Big Ten in points with 77, closely followed by Scane with 74 points. Scane's remarkable goal-scoring ability, averaging 4.36 goals per game, has placed her within 10 goals of breaking the NCAA goal-scoring record set by Charlotte North at 358 goals.
A victory on Sunday would not only secure the outright title for the Wildcats but also propel them to the number one seed in the upcoming Big Ten Tournament, hosted at Lanny & Sharon Martin Stadium in Evanston. Tickets for both the semifinals and final are available HERE.
