Wildcats Prepare for Road Swing at Nebraska and Iowa

LINCOLN, Neb. – Following a perfect 2-0 start to Big Ten play at home, No. 35 Northwestern women's tennis will hit the road to continue their conference schedule this weekend against Nebraska and No. 75 Iowa. First serve on Friday in Lincoln is scheduled for 4 p.m. CT, while Sunday's match in Iowa City is set to begin at noon CT.
The 'Cats (11-4, 2-0 B1G) are riding a three-match win streak after opening their conference schedule with defeats of then-No. 75 Rutgers and then-No. 49 Maryland last weekend in Evanston. The 4-0 victory over the Scarlet Knights and the 6-1 defeat of the Terrapins boosted Northwestern ten spots in the ITA team rankings, to their current place at No. 35.
They'll open play this weekend in Lincoln, facing a 9-4 (0-2 B1G) Nebraska squad. The Huskers have lost three straight, including their first two Big Ten matches against Maryland and Iowa last weekend. The 'Cats last faced Nebraska in their 2023 regular season finale, coming away with a 4-0 sweep in Evanston.
Following that, the 'Cats will take on the Hawkeyes. Iowa is 7-6 overall and 2-0 in conference play after beating both Indiana and Nebraska on the road. Northwestern last saw Iowa on April 22, 2023 - also coming away with a 4-0 win in that match.
Along with their team ranking, the Wildcats' Justine Leong moved up to No. 88 in singles play this week after a ranked victory last weekend over Maryland's No. 77 Selma Cadar. Additionally, Leong and doubles partner Christina Hand remain ranked, at No. 50 in this week's ITA doubles rankings.
After this weekend, Northwestern will continue their road stint with a match against in-state rival Illinois on March 30.
