Men's Tennis to Close Homestand With Trio of Matches

EVANSTON, Ill. - Coming off a ranked victory and a doubleheader sweep last weekend, men's tennis will continue their homestand against No. 21 Alabama, Clemson and IUPUI this weekend at Combe Tennis Center. Friday's match against the Crimson Tide is scheduled to begin at 6 p.m., while Sunday's action will begin with Clemson at noon and finish with IUPUI at 6 p.m.
Last weekend, the 'Cats went 2-1 in three matches, including a 4-3 victory over then-no. 8 Duke. Saiprakash Goli clinched the match with a 6-7, 6-2, 7-6 (7-3) win at #3 singles, with Presley Thieneman and Felix Nordby also picking up singles victories in the upset.
Friday's match will be another test for the Wildcats, as the Tide enter the weekend at No. 21 in the ITA's team rankings. Alabama is 5-2, but has won five straight leading up to their visit to Evanston. They also boast three ranked individuals and the No. 45 doubles pair in the country in Filip Paninsek and Andrii Zimnokh.
Clemson has also seen some success in limited action through their first few weeks of dual action. The 2-2 Tigers have beaten Brown and Citadel, while falling to Louisville and No. 2 South Carolina. Entering play against Northwestern, Clemson's Noa Vukadin is ranked No. 111 in singles play and the duo of Vukadin and Maxwell Smith sit at 33 in the ITA's doubles rankings.
The 'Cats will close out play this weekend on Sunday evening against a 3-4 IUPUI squad. The Jaguars have won two of their last three with victories over Eastern Illinois and Marquette.

Following this weekend's matches, men's tennis will hit the road for the first time in nearly a month to visit MTSU next Friday, February 16.
