11/22/2024 6:33:00 PM | Women's Volleyball
EVANSTON, Ill. - Northwestern volleyball is back in Welsh-Ryan Arena for the final time in 2024 on Saturday, hosting Rutgers on Senior Night for their home finale. First serve between the 'Cats and the Scarlet Knights is scheduled for 7 p.m. CT on B1G+.
STORYLINES:
THE MATCH-UP:
Northwestern owns the all-time series with Rutgers 13-1 heading into Saturday's matchup, winners of the last seven straight. The 'Cats' .929 winning percentage against the Scarlet Knights is their best against any conference opponent. Their lone loss to Rutgers came in 2019, a five-set victory for the Scarlet Knights in Piscataway, making them undefeated inside Welsh-Ryan when facing off with Rutgers.
The Scarlet Knights are 5-23 so far this season and head to Evanston still in search of their first conference victory this season. Rutgers' last win came on September 20 against UMES in a neutral site victory in Norfolk, Va. The Scarlet Knights have collected just two road wins this season - 3-0 sweeps of North Texas (Aug. 31) and Louisiana Tech (Sept. 7).
UP NEXT:
Northwestern will wrap up their 2024 campaign next week with a Thanksgiving road trip to Michigan and Michigan State. They'll take on the Spartans in East Lansing on Wednesday at 5 p.m. CT, then close out the season in Ann Arbor, facing Michigan at 6 p.m. on Friday.
STORYLINES:
- Northwestern will celebrate four graduates after the conclusion of Saturday's match. Ariel Amaya, Sara Griffith, Alexa Rousseau and Sophia Summers will be honored on court with a jersey presentation and ceremony.
- Kennedy Hill enters play on Saturday with 112 blocks this season, leading the 'Cats' roster and ranking fifth in the conference as a whole. Hill has set a new single-season career high, surpassing last year's total of 106, and posted the most blocks by a Wildcat in their junior year or younger since 2011.
- With ten digs on Thursday against USC, Rylen Reid set a new career high in that category for the third time in five matches. As of two weeks ago, the junior had never recorded more than six digs in a match. Now, she has logged seven or more in five straight. The 40 total digs she has contributed in that period nearly match her total from the previous 20 matches combined (48).
