
Wildcats Fall in Four to No. 10 Purdue

EVANSTON, IL -- Northwestern volleyball gave No. 10 Purdue all they could handle, but couldn't pull out a victory on Friday at home. They fell in four sets (25-23, 20-25, 16-25, 27-29) to the Boilermakers at Welsh-Ryan Arena.
The loss dropped Northwestern's record to 3-8 overall and 1-2 in Big Ten play.
The Wildcats offense was paced by Buse Hazan and Alexa Rousseau, who both finished with 11 kills on the day. Defensively, the 'Cats had two players reach double figures in digs as Drew Wright had 15 and Lily Wagner had 14. From the front row, Sophia Summers contributed seven blocks.
How It Happened
SET 1 | The Wildcats persevered in a back-and-forth first set to win 25-23 in a stanza that featured seven lead changes and was tied 16 times. Neither team led by more than three points in the match.
SET 2 | Northwestern lost the second set 25-20 to tie the match 1-1. Purdue grabbed the advantage for good at 10-9 in a set that was knotted up 10 times before the Boilermakers took over the lead.
SET 3 | Northwestern lost again in the third set to make it a 2-1 deficit. The Wildcats dropped a tough set 25-16. Northwestern trailed by as many as nine points as Purdue grabbed the advantage for good at 6-5 in a set that was tied up four times before the Boilermakers took over the lead.
SET 4 | Northwestern lost set four and the match, falling 29-27. A dominant defensive effort from the front row wasn't enough as the Wildcats lost the set despite notching eight blocks.
