‘Cats Cruise Past Wellesley At Northwestern Fall Duals, 24-3

Northwestern heads to San Diego, Calif. this weekend for Western Invitational

EVANSTON, Ill. (October 29, 2024) – Northwestern fencing opened its dual schedule in style this past Sunday, rolling to a 24-3 victory over Wellesley as part of the Northwestern Fall Duals inside Patten Gymnasium.
 
The 'Cats swept all three weapons against the Blue, highlighted by a perfect 9-0 showing from their foil squad.  Yejine Lee and Yukari Takamizawa both posted spotless 3-0 records to lead the attack.  Brianna Ho finished 2-0, while Ophelia Tong was victorious in her long head-to-head bout.
 
Northwestern's epeeists prevailed by an 8-1 scoreline, fueled by unblemished showings Athina Kwon and Amanda Pirkowski, the latter of whom made her Wildcat debut on Sunday.  Christina Liu added a pair of victories across her three appearances.
 
In the sabre, Kailing Sathyanath helped propel the Wildcats to a 7-2 triumph as she finished 3-0 in the weapon.  Alex Chen and Amy Lu both contributed a pair of victories as well to close out a clean sweep of the weapons for Northwestern.
