'Cats Host Huskies to Begin Three-Match Homestand

EVANSTON, Ill. – Following its first road swing of the season, Northwestern men's soccer returns home to face Northern Illinois at Martin Stadium. Kickoff from Evanston is set for 7 p.m. CT on B1G+.
Last time out, the Wildcats played to a 1-1 draw at DePaul. NU held an early 5-4 advantage in shots in the first half but was unable to convert, heading into halftime scoreless. After falling behind 1-0 in the 50th minute, Northwestern found a late 84th minute equalizer when Colling McCamy delivered a corner kick that found Bryant Mayer in the box who rose above the crowd to head the game-tying goal home.
Ugo Achara Jr. made his season debut at DePaul, logging 35 minutes and recording two shots in the draw.
The Wildcats are unbeaten through four games for the first time since 2014 and 3-0-1 for the first time since 2007.
Justin Weiss has tallied five points so far in 2023, notching two goals and an assist, including the 90th minute game-winnning goal against St. Thomas. Weiss ranks in the Top 10 in the Big Ten in the following categories: shots (T-3rd, 12), shots on goal (T-2nd, 7), goals (T-1st, 2), game-winning goals (T-3rd, 1), and points (T-1st, 5).
Five different Wildcats (Christopher Thaggard, Justin Weiss, Rom Brown, Collin McCamy, Bryant Mayer) have tallied a goal so far this season, tied for third-most in the Big Ten.
Friday's matchup marks the 32nd all-time meeting between Northwestern and NIU on the pitch. NIU holds a 17-11-3 lead in the series. The two sides last met on Oct. 12, 2022, when Ethan Dudley, Bardia Kimiavi, and Jason Gajadhar tallied goals in a 3-1 Wildcat win in DeKalb.
The Huskies are 2-2 on the season, with wins over Western Illinois and Aurora. Senior Eddie Knight leads NIU with three goals and an assist on the season.
