CCFC Championships On Tap For No. 5 Northwestern This Weekend

‘Cats coming off strong showing at USA Fencing Junior Olympics
EVANSTON, Ill. (February 23, 2023) – No. 5 Northwestern fencing raises the curtain on its postseason slate this weekend, traveling east to Columbus, Ohio for the Central Collegiate Fencing Conference Championships.
LAST TIME OUT
Northwestern was well-represented at the USA Fencing Junior Olympics, with nine 'Cats competing across three days in Denver, Colo. Megumi Oishi dazzled in the women's sabre, picking up three wins in her journey through the tableau en route to a 10th-place finish.
In the women's foil, a pair of Wildcats landed inside the top 30. Juliana Hung forged her way to 22nd overall, using a 15-11 upset of No. 30 Sophia Zhao in a third-round pairing. Samantha Serban scored an upset of her own in the third round, downing No. 19 Allison Chen, 15-10, on her way to finishing 28th.
Lia Douglas and Anna Damratoski placed 28th and 29th, respectively, in the women's epee. Douglas impressed in the tableau, knocking off No. 50 Catherine Witter, 10-9, in the second round ahead of a thrilling 15-13 victory over No. 15 Amy Mao in the following round. Damratoski, like Douglas, was victorious in three tableau rounds, including a 15-7 win over No. 44 Natalya Cafasso in the second round.
The 'Cats were also represented in the women's team epee event, where Douglas and Damratoski joined forces with Karen Wang and Athina Kwon to propel Northwestern to a fourth-place finish.

The 2023 CCFC Championships will be hosted by Ohio State University inside French Field House in Columbus, Ohio. Team competition is slated for Saturday, with action set to get underway at 7:30 a.m. (CT). The individual portion of the event will open at 7 a.m. (CT) on Sunday morning.
Northwestern will face off against the host Buckeyes, who are ranked sixth nationally, in addition to Cleveland State, Denison, Detroit Mercy, Lawrence, and Wayne State.
