No. 5 ‘Cats Earn Runner-Up Finish At CCFC Championships

Eight Wildcats secure All-CCFC accolades
COLUMBUS, Ohio (March 2, 2023) – Eight Wildcats earned all-conference honors as No. 5 Northwestern fencing secured a second-place finish at the Central Collegiate Fencing Conference (CCFC) Championships this past weekend in Columbus, Ohio.
In Saturday's team competition, Northwestern opened competition with five straight victories. The Wildcats started fast against Wayne State, with the sabre squad posting a perfect 9-0 mark as part of a 21-6 win. After a 24-3 triumph over Lawrence that was highlighted by a 9-0 showing from the epee group, the 'Cats blanked Detroit Mercy, 27-0, sweeping all three weapons.
Following wins over Cleveland State, 23-4, and Denison, 24-3, Northwestern matched up with top-seeded Ohio State for the team title, dropping a 19-8 decision to the Buckeyes.
The 'Cats were well-represented on the All-CCFC squads, led by Hanna Lipthay (epee), Yejine Lee (foil), and Levi Hoogendoorn (sabre), who each claimed runner-up finishes in their respective events. Karen Wang (epee), Lia Douglas (epee), Anna Biasco (foil), Sky Miller (sabre), and Megumi Oishi (sabre) were also recognized with all-league honors.
