Wildcats Sweep Harvard and Miami at Combe

EVANSTON, Ill. – Northwestern enjoyed a dominant outing at Combe Tennis Center on Sunday, sweeping Harvard 7-0 and then Miami of Ohio 7-0.
The 'Cats improved to 4-3 overall in the early season. They dropped the Crimson to 5-3 and the Redhawks to 4-3.
Northwestern did not drop a team point on the entire day. Maria Shusharina, Ema Lazic, Sydney Pratt, Briana Crowley and Christina Hand each went 2-0 in singles. Clarissa Hand went 1-0 with a win against Harvard while Hannah McColgan went 1-0 with a win against Miami.
In doubles, the 'Cats secured the point in the first match with a 6-1 win from No. 2 from Pratt and McColgan and a 6-2 win at No. 3 from Crowley and Ch. Hand.
The doubles point against Miami was secured by the same 'Cats, just with reversed scores as Pratt and McColgan won their set 6-2 and Crowley and Ch. Hand took theirs 6-1.
In a day marked by multiple straight-set wins with large margins of victories in those sets, the 'Cats still fought through two tough matches at No. 1 singles.
Cl. Hand, ranked no. 85th in the country, took down Maxi Duncan, 7-6(5), 6-2. Duncan is a first year who was ranked as high as No. 4 nationally in her class before coming to Harvard.
Shusharina also came back for an impressive 3-6, 6-1, 10-6 win over Brindtha Ramasamy in a 10-point third set tiebreak at No. 1 in the second match. Ramasamy went 14-5 last season for the Redhawks and was first team all-MAC.
The Wildcats are back in action with a road trip this weekend at Kansas State on Saturday and Kansas and Sunday.
