EVANSTON, Ill. βΒ Northwestern looks to continue its three-match unbeaten streak on Thursday night when it welcomes Utah Valley to Martin Stadium. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. CT and will be streamed on Big Ten Network+.
The Wildcats are coming off a comeback 4-1 win against Kansas City in the home opener on Monday. Senior Bardia Kimiavi and sophomore Justin Weiss both scored a goal and first-year Paul Son delighted the Martin Stadium faithful with a brace.Β
The last comeback win for the Wildcats was Sept. 24, 2019 when the 'Cats overcame a 1-0 deficit to extinguish UIC 2-1 in overtime. The last time the Wildcats scored four or more goals was in the spring season at Wisconsin, in a 5-2 win featuring goals from Richie Bennett, Spencer Howard and Logan Weaver.Β
The last Wildcat to score twice in a game was sophomore forward Ugo Achara, Jr., who scored twice in the aforementioned contest at Wisconsin. The last first year to score twice in a game was Tommy Katsiyiannis, who did so in the 2017 season against Rutgers in November in 2018 and Loyola in October.Β
The Wildcats are 2-1-1 to start the season with six goals in four games and five different Wildcats on the scoresheet. Eight different Wildcats have recorded an assist in a balanced offensive effort so far.Β
Utah Valley are 2-0-1 to start the season with wins against Niagara and Cal State Northridge. The Wolverines are led by Kyle Beckerman, former United States Men's National Team player and nine-time MLS All-Star. Beckerman made 58 caps with the men's national team including appearances at the 2015 Gold Cup and 2016 Copa America Centenario when Northwestern head coach Russell Payne was the goalkeepers coach. Β
