EVANSTON, Ill. - No. 23 Northwestern logged another conference victory Thursday night, defeating Michigan 81-73 at Welsh-Ryan Arena.
The victory brings them to 8-2 in the Big Ten and keeps them in a second-place tie with Maryland. The 'Cats are 18-3 overall.
Northwestern jumped out to an early lead in the first quarter. Senior Abi Scheid led the team with eight points, capitalizing on three assists from sophomore Veronica Burton to put Northwestern up 20-13. Michigan closed in during the second quarter, however, scoring 20 to narrow the 'Cats' lead to 34-33 at the break.
The game remained neck-and-neck through the beginning of the second half, but Northwestern never gave up the lead. Junior Lindsey Pulliam finally provided the jolt Northwestern needed to pull away in the fourth quarter, scoring 13 to lock up the game for the 'Cats.
Pulliam had another stand-out performance overall, scoring a season-high 32 points on the night to lead the team. The mark is just one short of her career high, set during her first season. Abi Scheid and fellow senior Abbie Wolf also turned in impressive games, scoring a combined 25 points.
Northwestern will return to action on Sunday, when they head to University Park to face off with Penn State. Tip-off is scheduled for 11 a.m. CT.
