The Wildcats were off to a hot start with a goal from sophomore, Bardia Kimiavi in the fourth minute of the game. The Reston, VA. native broke Maryland's home shutout streak with his third goal of the season.

"Winning in the Big Ten is hard, winning on the road in the Big Ten even harder," said head coach Tim Lenahan. "Defeating the defending National Champions is a special win. We had a great game plan to deal with their press and getting an early goal really helped. A great team win and very happy for our guys."
Heading into the locker room, Northwestern held on to the 1-0 lead. The Terps responded in the second half with the equalizer in the 55th minute.
Ten minutes later, senior Matt Moderwell launched a shot to the upper right corner of the net to regain the lead in the 65thminute, his seventh goal of his career. Although Maryland created chances, it was not enough to break through the smothering Wildcat defense.
