
Five Wildcat Wrestlers to Compete in NCAA Championships

EVANSTON, Ill. – Five Northwestern wrestlers will head east to Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, this weekend to take part in the 2019 NCAA Wrestling Championships.
Sebastian Rivera, Ryan Deakin, Tyler Morland, and Conan Jennings all punched their tickets to the competition with their performance at the Big Ten Championships last weekend. Shayne Oster was chosen as an at-large selection based on his performance this season.
Athletes will start hitting the mats at 11 a.m. CT on Thursday, with preliminary, first-round, and wrestleback matches scheduled for that day's sessions — I and II. Friday will then feature the quarterfinals and semifinals along with the second through fifth wrestleback rounds. The action will conclude on Saturday with the consolation semifinals and placement matches in the afternoon, followed by the championships at 6 p.m.

SESSION V — 12 p.m. CT

Each of the morning sessions (I, III, and V) will be broadcast on ESPNU, while the evening sessions (II, IV, and VI) will air on ESPN. Complementary coverage can also be found on ESPN3. A full breakdown of the television options can be found here.
The brackets were released on Thursday with each of the 33 wrestlers in each weight class given a seed. Notably, Rivera grabbed the top spot at 125 and Deakin is slotted third at 157. Rivera is looking to continue his momentum after earning a Big Ten Championship, the 42nd in Northwestern history.
Last time the Championships were held in Pennsylvania (2011; Philadelphia), the Wildcats finished tied for 13th. Northwestern is looking for its 10th top-15 finish in the last 15 years.
All wrestlers will be guaranteed at least two matches in the double-elimination bracket. The top eight performers from each weight class will earn All-America honors.
