No. 2 Northwestern Set for Final Duals Meet at Duke

2/8/2019 10:05:00 AM | Women's Fencing

EVANSTON, Ill. – The No. 2 Northwestern women's fencing team is set to travel to Durham, North Carolina for the Duke Meet this Sunday, February 10th.

The Wildcats will face familiar foes once again, as they will match up against No. 4 Penn State, No. 6 Duke, North Carolina, Air Force, and Boston College. There will be nine 5-point bouts per weapon, with three fencers from each school.

"We are excited for this final regular season test for our team," said head coach Zach Moss. "We will take on some tough competition, but we are ready for the challenge. It has been a great season so far and we are looking to finish it on a high note."

Northwestern previously defeated Penn State and North Carolina at the Elite Invitational in November, and defeated Air Force at the Western Invitational in January. The 'Cats last faced Boston College at the Duke Duals in February 2017, where they defeated the Eagles 17-10.

The #B1GCats defeated Duke for one of nine wins last weekend as they hosted the Northwestern Duals at Ryan Fieldhouse & Wilson Field. In total, NU racked up four wins against top-ten teams, and improved their overall season record to 36-3.

Epéeist Pauline Hamilton led all Wildcats with 11 wins, while Sarah Filby and Maggie Snider contributed nine apiece. Hamilton and Filby each have 32 wins on the year, tied for the most on the team.

Sunday's meet represents the final regular-season duals meet for Northwestern's five seniors: Yvonne Chart, Sharon Chen, Maddy Curzon, Ella Lombard, and Emine Yücel.  The group was honored prior to last weekend's matchup against Temple in their final home meet. Curzon leads all active NU fencers with 183 wins in her career.
