EVANSTON, Ill. — After opening the season unbeaten at home, Northwestern men's soccer hits the road for a pair of neutral contests in Madison, Wisconsin. The Wildcats will take on Valparaiso on Saturday, Sept. 1, at 5 p.m. CT, before finishing the trip against Fordham on Monday, Sept. 3 at noon.

Northwestern (1-0-1) topped Cleveland State, 3-0, in the 2018 season opener behind goals from Bardia Kimiavi, Garrett Opperman and Camden Buescher. The goals were career firsts for Kimiavi and Opperman.

The Wildcats again defended home turf on Sunday by playing Xavier to a scoreless draw. Goalkeeper Miha Miskovic earned Big Ten Co-Defensive Player of the Week honors for putting together back-to-back clean sheets. Miskovic played 200:00 minutes of scoreless action, tallying five saves while facing 32 shots. He is one of six goalkeepers in the country to have two shutouts through the first weekend.

Valparaiso (1-1) enters the contest after splitting decisions on the opening weekend with a win against IUPUI, 1-0 (2OT), and a loss at Marquette, 3-1. Michael Marchianna leads the Crusaders with a goal and an assist, while Daniel Moreno has VU's only other goal this season.

Northwestern is 12-5 all-time against Valparaiso. The Wildcats staged a come-from-behind overtime win against Valpo in the 2017 season opener. After the Crusaders took a 1-0 lead in the 30th minute, Mac Mazzola scored in the 55th to bring it even. Riley Kelliher found Ty Seager in the 95th minute for the game-winner.

Fordham (1-0) travels to Madison to battle Wisconsin on Saturday, Sept. 1, before taking on the Wildcats. The Rams took at 2-1 win over Holy Cross in their season opener on Friday, Aug. 24. Sameer Fathazada and Janos Loebe each scored for Fordham in the effort. Goalkeeper Dan Miklos was named the Atlantic 10 Conference Defensive Player of the Week after making three saves against Holy Cross.

Fordham posted a 14-6-3 campaign in 2017, which ended with a 2-1 loss at North Carolina in the NCAA Championship quarterfinals.

There will be no live stream for either game this weekend.
