EVANSTON, Ill. – Northwestern will step out of conference play this week to face cross-town foe UIC Tuesday evening. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. CT.
Northwestern enters the contest 4-6-4 after a 2-1 loss at Rutgers. The 'Cats out shot the Scarlet Knights 16-14 but a late penalty kick in the final minutes proved to be the difference.
UIC boasts a 9-3-1 record and a 4-1-1 mark in Horizon League play and remains undefeated at home this season. The Flames host the Wildcats after a 4-3 victory over Milwaukee in overtime.
Northwestern looks to extend its unbeaten streak against Chicago Division-I opponents to six. The Wildcats picked up wins over Loyola, DePaul and UIC in 2017 and this season the Wildcats topped Loyola, 1-0, (Sept. 7) and played DePaul (Oct. 9) to a 1-1 draw.
Sophomore keeper Miha Miskovic ranks first in the Big Ten and fourth nationally in shutouts with seven and his 46 saves are good for second-most in the conference. Northwestern's .500 shutout percentage ranks 16th among all college soccer programs and second among conference opponents.
The Wildcats have a pair of first years on TopDrawerSoccer.com's midseason Freshmen Top-100 list. Richie Bennett checked in at No. 42, while Bardia Kimiavi was listed at No. 91. Bennett has made 12 starts in his rookie campaign and has tallied one assist. Kimiavi is tied for third on the club in points with a pair of goals.
Tuesday's match is the second of the three straight road contests for Chicago's Big Ten Team before returning home next week to close out the regular season.
